Sad old seed watcher
Call me a sad old gnome if you like (and at 70 years old, I am cracking on a bit) but when seeds starts to grow …. how exciting and magical is that!!! Just as well Margo finds it magical too …. but will she still be as keen when the vast quality of seeds she ordered arrive any day now. You see, she kind of got a bit carried away when ordering online. Click click clickerdy click…...

Big Meccano with dodgy instructions
Having carefully studied the instructions Jerry was ready to start building the frame of the greenhouse. Unlike the previous day all went well and despite the cold and back to front instructions the components of the greenhouse are ready to be fixed together.

Big Meccano really
Oh the sun is out, quick Jerry off you go…. but day went from bad to worse for poor Jerry. He first needed to drill into the concrete at the top of the garden but found his cordless drill couldn’t cope and then the battery charger was dead. So off Jerry went to B&Q to buy a replacement, he waited for ages only to discover they didn’t have any in stock. Okay never mind, we...

I sow the seed
Well as predicted Margo finally got cracking this afternoon. She dragged Jerry to the garden centre with the promise of tea and cake in the teashop. Later they returned with seed compost, seed trays, pea seeds and a *pink* watering can!!. Good old Jerry carried the very heavy compost up two flights of stairs to the loft the temporary potting shed/greenhouse. First she planted some early cropping...

Home Alone
Well it has been a lonely few days here, Margo and Jerry have been off on a “Jolly holiday”. I was left home alone with the cat, a house cat who has never been left over night on his own. Preparations for his “Macaulay Culkin” status, included the purchase of a Cat Mate Automatic pet feeder, which uses a timer to dispense food each day. So automatic food and his very own...

Love is
Happy Valentines Day to all you Gnomes out there, needless to say I am still waiting for the postman to arrive. Jerry however is very much in the good books today with Margo, choosing the jewellery option instead of a new propagator as her Valentines gift. What a creep. The lovebirds are disappointingly lacking in any gardening motivation today, despite the arrival of a vintage propagator from...

Raising expectations
Jerry was busy with his screwdriver back in the Autumn, making raised beds for the new Grow Your Own mission. He even bought a special tool for the job…. and its an “impact driver” apparently. It grieves me to admit he made a good job and 2 more will follow. Margo then planted some Purple Sprouting Broccoli, which has been snug under a blanket of snow for most of the winter.

Confession time
Okay I admit it isn’t actually my garden as such…. well I did say it was Confessions of a blah de blah… I did get rather carried away, I do love gardening it is my passion, but the garden is the domain of “The Good Life” couple. I am but a lodger in their garden. These two born again gardeners are trying their hands at “Growing Their Own”. You know the...

My blog begins
Welcome to my world and let me introduce myself, I am Graham the Gnome. I start this new gardening blogging adventure here with you on this grey, damp, bone chilling February afternoon. Although I have always loved gardening, for a few years I have not had the time or space to indulge myself in my passion but now with a new garden I have a fresh challenge ahead. Here I am looking proudly at the...
